Zambian athlete and Zambia Army officer Edna Ngandula has secured a full athletic scholarship to study and compete in the United States, marking a significant milestone for both her sporting and academic career. According to Zambia Athletics, Ngandula, a member of the national athletics team, has been awarded a full scholarship to Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, for the 2026–2027 academic year. The scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, meals, books and course fees, providing the athlete with an opportunity to combine higher education with elite sports development. Ngandula is expected to report to the institution by August 14, ahead of the commencement of classes on August 19. Zambia Athletics has since engaged the Ministry of Defence, the Zambia Army, the National Sports Council of Zambia and the National Olympic Committee of Zambia to facilitate the necessary administrative processes and allow her to continue serving in the military while pursuing her studies abroad. Zambia Athletics President Major Bernard Chola Bwalya described the scholarship as a proud achievement for Zambia Athletics, the Zambia Army and the nation, saying it demonstrates that sport can open doors to education, career advancement and international exposure. Major Bwalya said the achievement should inspire young athletes across the country to remain disciplined and committed to their sporting careers, emphasizing that talent alone is not enough without hard work, dedication and good character. He also commended coaches and technical officials for their role in developing athletes capable of earning international opportunities. Ngandula is expected to represent Zambia at the Commonwealth Games before departing for the United States. Zambia Athletics says the scholarship reflects its continued efforts to create pathways for athletes to access international education and high-performance sporting opportunities while proudly representing the country on the global stage.
